Kindergarten

In Kindergarten at HTLS, growing in faith and serving our Lord are stressed throughout the day. Children attend either five full days from 8am-3pm or five half days from 8am-12pm.
Our day is action packed.  The morning consists of circle time, Christian education, language arts, math and center time.  The Scott-Foresman Curriculum is used to introduce students to reading and writing using big books, individual readers, phonemic awareness, phonics, and sight word practice.  The A Beka Curriculum is used in math along with supplemental activities.  Instruction is presented in large group, circle time and small group formats.  The afternoon activities consist of theme (science and social studies topics), read aloud, math and reading centers and recess.  Free choice centers are part of every day to give students a chance to apply what they have learned.  Cooperation, creativity and social skills are practiced and modeled in everything we do.  Enrichment activities include library, Accelerated Reader, music, art, computers, physical education and foreign language (Chinese). Special seasonal activities are also a focus in kindergarten.
